ANNUAL ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

 

The start of a new year often has us focus on making commitments to personal improvements or resolutions. It is also an ideal time for parents to talk with their athletes about establishing an annual development plan.

 

Parents are essentially the Athletic Directors of their ‘home’ team. Responsible for event registration, competition schedules, practices, meals/nutrition, laundry, transportation, and more. Often an athlete playing multiple sports will have coaches and trainers who do not know one another, so parents are left to pull together an annual development plan that will also include pre-season, in-season, and post-season training and conditioning. A Master Game Plan, as we call it.

 

Even the best start with a ‘Game Plan’. Athletic Republic Capitol Region athlete, and 2022 Heisman Winner, Caleb Williams credits his father Carl for helping him early on create his development plan. “…we stayed up all night putting together a plan. And the Journey/Plan went like this: 5:30 a.m., breakfast club workouts (at Athletic Republic). We also have 6:30 p.m. lift, running conditioning, getting bigger, stronger, and faster. We had nutritionists, sleep patterns, sports psychologists, coaching experts, and learning and playing the game. The more I learned, the more I wanted.” Just like Carl, the parent’s role as their athlete’s Athletic Director is critical to their future.

Athletic Republic’s mission is to ‘Transform Potential into Performance’ and its trainers are committed to helping every athlete get better. The start of the new year is an ideal time to pull out the sport season schedules and make an appointment with an AR trainer to discuss how they can help the athlete improve their speed, power, agility, strength, and stamina during the pre-season, stay healthy in-season while advancing their performance skills, and identify the areas for improvement that may be worked on during the post-season.

 

Business guru Peter Drucker is known for his statement, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” The same can be said about sports training. Athletic Republic’s science-based approach starts with an athlete assessment that identifies an athlete’s strengths and areas for improvement, then applies the specific training protocol that’s right for each individual. So, every athlete receives the right workout every time they train, which leads to helping them improve their performance. We call it ‘one size fits one’.
