The Power of Title IX: 50 Years Later

ACLFemale

Title IX was a law that forever changed women’s sports and women’s history.  On June 23rd 1972, this 37-word clause was passed which states:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Before this law was passed the idea that women participating in sports was not taken seriously and was overlooked.  Women began to form clubs that were athletic in nature that evolved over time as they became more involved with competitive sports. Women have come a long way in sports. But it has taken grit, determination and enormous patience for women and girls to be truly valued and to find their equal footing with men.

This is a victory worth celebrating even 50 years later and it will continue to be inspiring to the next generation of female athletes.

In the most recent advances in female sports, the USA Women’s Soccer Team won the equal pay lawsuit that they have been fighting since 2019.  Members of the team decided to fight against The United States Soccer Federation for equal pay since they were having great success on the field.  The salary they were earning was not correlating with the titles they were winning.  On May, 18, 2022, The United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the United States Women's National Team Players Association (USWNTPA) and the United States National Soccer Team Players Association (USNSTPA) have agreed to a deal that achieves "equal pay and set the global standard moving forward in international soccer." US Soccer, under the agreements, is now "the first Federation in the world to equalize FIFA World Cup prize money" awarded to the teams for participating in World Cups.

Females continue to push past the boundaries and fight for their participation in sports as they have the power to change lives.

Over 30 years of science and research have gone into developing our Athletic Republic training program. AR takes pride in every one of our athletes and works hard to individualize every program for each athlete.  Our goal is to provide all athletes (especially female athletes) with the skills they need to thrive in their sport.  We want to push our athletes to compete at the highest level of competition they can so that we may better help our athletes get the most safe, proven, and effective training that prevents injury.

Did you know that:

- More than 50% of AR Athletes are female

- 40% of AR Owners in the last 3 years are female entrepreneurs

- We welcomed 25 new female trainers to our network in the past 6 months

- women are 3-7 times more likely to tear their ACL than men, and need a training center dedicated to strengthening the next generation of elite athletes.

Together with the sports industry we celebrate the 50 year legacy of Title IX, which changed the face of female sports forever.
