MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement Expired Resulting in Lockout
At 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday night, Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement expired resulting in the league implementing a lockout of all players until resolution. While the MLB & MLBPA continue to work towards an agreement and conclusion, the length of the lockout is unknown and causing worry for Athletes and Fans.
"Despite the league's best efforts to make a deal with the Players Association, we were unable to extend our 26 year-long history of labor peace and come to an agreement with the MLBPA before the current CBA expired," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred wrote.
The lockout has many complicated layers and details, but one part is simple: No workouts for players at club facilities. During a lockout, the owners physically lock the players out of club training facilities, meaning no workouts allowed (club organized or otherwise), no performance training, recovery, or injury rehabbing.
