Training In-Season? Yes, with Enhanced Training Classes

One of Athletic Republic’s primary objectives is to help athletes prepare for their upcoming competitive seasons by developing their speed, strength, stamina, agility, and power, along with a dose of injury-preventing durability. But our role does not end there. Athletic Republic has recently introduced Enhanced Training, which can serve not only as a supplement to regular training, but also as a complement to in-season activities. This training can ensure that savvy athletes who can manage to fit this into their busy schedules during their main season can maintain the edge they so carefully developed in the off-season—and in fact, sharpen it even further.

First of all, who can benefit, and how?

  • Any team sport athlete, particularly when in-season practices are devoted to developing teamwork, plays, and skills; conditioning can actually fall off for many athletes during the season because relatively little time is devoted to it. Depending on how practices are run, this effect is particularly marked among non-starters, who tend to spend more of their time watching rather than participating in scrimmages and games.
  • Athletes for whom the season places a heavy load on certain joints and muscles due to a high volume of repetitive movement, such as baseball pitchers, tennis players, and golfers.
  • Endurance athletes (runners, swimmers, cyclists) whose training includes high-volume repetitive exercise
  • Any athletes whose sport requires quick reactions and hand-eye coordination

How does it work? Enhanced Training is made up of 30-minute small group training sessions for anyone who wants to improve their athletic skills, reduce injury risk, and/or enhance recovery. None of the Enhanced Training modules are metabolically taxing, so adding them to a routine doesn’t put anyone at risk of overuse injury or fatigue. This also makes them ideal for athletes who are in-season and therefore already pushing their bodies to the limit.

Enhanced training options at Athletic Republic

Enhanced Training options include:

Recovery and Mobility work on flexibility, range of motion and muscle recovery. A recovery and mobility program is an important part of every high-performing athlete’s training program, regardless of their sport. It allows the athlete to absorb each workout, reduce fatigue, improve functional range of motion, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance performance.

Sensory Training with the Senaptec strobe glasses enhances visual skills such as focus, object tracking, anticipation timing, reaction time, visualization, balance/stability, and peripheral vision. The strobes in the glasses reduce the amount of visual information available to the athlete, forcing them to become more effective in processing this data. This effectively slows the game down around you, helping you make quicker decisions, execute rapid responses, and complete more efficient movements which contribute to better game-day performance.

Stability Training improves balance, coordination, and multi-directional movement skills. Using primarily bodyweight exercises and balance equipment, we work to develop the myriad small stabilizer muscles that are often overlooked in regular training. Stability training is ideal for anyone who is at risk for ACL injury or younger athletes who are expending most of their time and effort in-season simply learning concepts and practicing basic sports skills

Shoulder Safety is designed both for those who have experienced shoulder injury in the past as well as those at risk of overuse injuries such as baseball pitchers or swimmers, the Shoulder Safety module builds shoulder integrity and resilience to reduce risk for overuse injuries and impingement.

Cord Contrast Training with Athletic Republic’s patented Cords provides controlled resistance while allowing athletes to perform at game speed, greatly improving sport-specific power for hitting, throwing, running, shooting, spiking serving and/or jumping. Our cords provide resistance without changing or affecting proper mechanics to minimize the loss of power that occurs naturally throughout the season.

Strength Training focuses more intensively on increasing overall force production with lower volumes and higher resistance. Our weight training program is designed specifically for each athlete’s sport, training age, gender, and imbalances, with the aim of building a more injury-resistant athlete. Athletes can participate in-season as part of a conditioning maintenance effort, if needed.
